Infusion Services

Infusion therapy is the administration of medications or nutrients directly into the body through a blood vessel, under the skin, or into a muscle. With current advances in treatment and technology, it now is possible to infuse many medications at home. Therapy is sometimes started while the patient is in the hospital and continues at home after discharge. It can also be safely started at home in many cases. Walgreens provides these infusion services at home, at the workplace, in a physician's office or in a Walgreens alternate treatment site. Infusion therapy continues until the patient no longer needs the medication.

Some of the most common reasons for infusion therapy: cancer, chronic pain, dehydration, gastrointestinal (GI) problems, heart failure, immunodeficiency disorders, malnutrition, neuromuscular disorders and serious infections. Complex medical conditions like Crohn's disease, hemophilia, multiple sclerosis, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, hereditary angioedema (HAE) and rheumatoid arthritis can also be treated with specialty medications through infusion.

Therapies provided through Walgreens infusion services include but are not limited to:

  • Antibiotics
