Flu/pneumonia immunization services for your employees
According to the CDC, influenza affects approximately 60 million people in the United States each year, causing an estimated 36,000 deaths and 226,000 hospitalizations annually. Studies show the traditional influenza vaccine reduces the number of visits to healthcare providers by up to 44 percent and lost workdays by up to 45 percent.
The Walgreens Health Initiatives (WHI) Flu and Pneumonia Immunization Program is designed to offer you and your employees a national flu immunization solution that provides convenient access to affordable, preventive healthcare.
Beginning this fall, flu immunizations will be available at nearly 7,000 Walgreens locations in 50 states, including more than 300 Take Care Clinics, and worksite locations.
By offering this program to your employees, you may prevent unnecessary missed work days and decrease disease spread in the workplace, plus help lower the overall financial healthcare costs for you and your employees.
Program options
WHI is offering two convenient program options for the upcoming flu season.
In-store voucher program: Starting in September, Walgreens immunization certified pharmacists and healthcare professionals will administer flu/pneumonia immunizations to your employees in our stores, including Take Care Clinics.
When your employees present their WHI pharmacy benefit card and voucher, they will receive their immunization either for free or for a small copay, depending on their benefit design.
Worksite program: healthcare professionals will administer flu/pneumonia immunizations to your employees at your worksite. Your WHI account management team will work with you to determine the best date and time to schedule worksite clinic(s) from late October 2009 through the end of February 2010. Employees unable to attend their scheduled worksite clinic can receive their immunization at a participating Walgreens location, including Take Care Clinics.
Work with your account representative early to schedule these clinics. A guaranteed minimum of 30 immunizations per clinic is required to participate in this program option.
Convenient program for employees
Once coverage requirements have been determined, we will provide you with marketing material to promote the program to your employees prior to your program start date. Your employees will be able to:
- Locate nearly 7,000 participating Walgreens locations by either calling 866-WHI-FLU1 (866-944-3581) or by visiting Walgreens.com/flu beginning this August
- Preregister, in person or by calling a participating pharmacy
- Receive immunizations by presenting their WHI pharmacy benefit ID card and voucher for free or for a small copay
- Participate in worksite immunization clinics, where available
Reporting
WHS is also able to provide client-specific reports identifying:
- Employee information
- Date of immunization
- Type of immunization administered
- Location of services
Immunization claims will appear on your bimonthly statement, along with the prescription claims.
