Do I need to swallow this medication whole?

Yes. Swallow your TarcevaŽ pill whole, with a full glass of water. Do not chew the pill.

Should I take this medication with food?

No. Take TarcevaŽ either one hour before or two hours after eating a meal.

Tip: If you take TarcevaŽ with food, it may increase your chance of developing side effects.

Can I drink coffee or have other caffeinated drinks with TarcevaŽ?

Caffeine is not restricted when taking TarcevaŽ, but you should talk to your doctor about how much caffeine, if any, is safe for you to consume during your treatment.

Tip: Caffeine can irritate your digestive system and worsen medication-related side effects such as diarrhea and fatigue.

Tip: Remember that caffeine is not just in coffee; it is also contained in many teas and cola drinks.

Can I go in the sun with this medication?

To help prevent skin reactions, it is best to avoid sun exposure when taking Tarceva. TarcevaŽ might cause skin dryness and sun exposure might lead to a rash or sunburn.

Tip: If you must be in the sun, wear a wide-brimmed hat and protective clothing. You should also apply sunblock appropriate for sensitive skin (with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) with an SPF of at least 15.

Can I drink alcohol with this medication?

Alcohol is not restricted when taking TarcevaŽ, but you should talk to your doctor about how much alcohol, if any, is safe for you to consume during your treatment.

Tip: TarcevaŽ may increase the risk of liver problems and liver failure. Consuming alcohol when taking TarcevaŽ might create additional risk for liver problems.

Tip: Alcohol can also irritate your digestive system and worsen medication side effects such as diarrhea and mouth sores.

Can I take this medication with milk?

Yes, but if you have diarrhea, you may find it helpful to avoid milk and other dairy products, which can irritate your digestive system.

Can I take this medication at the same time as my other medications?

No. Taking TarcevaŽ with other medications and herbal supplements can prevent the medication from working properly in your body.

I missed a dose. What should I do next?

If you miss a dose, take your regular dose the next day. Do not take two doses to make up for a missed dose.
