Does my health insurance cover fertility treatment?

Some insurance companies do not specifically cover fertility treatments. However, this does not mean every treatment option is excluded. It’s important to find out whether your insurance plan may still cover part of the costs.

  • Review your current insurance policy and understand exactly what it includes, excludes, and limits.
  • Call your state insurance commissioner’s office to find out whether your state has regulations regarding insurance coverage for fertility treatment.
  • Consult resources and organizations like the American Fertility Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and Resolve to read updated online listings describing fertility insurance regulations in each state.
  • Put together a list of questions to ask your insurance company regarding coverage for fertility treatments. The American Fertility Association provides an online list of suggested questions regarding coverage for tests, medications, and ART.
  • Contact Schraft's, A Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy, at 800-876-4545 to speak with an insurance representative who can assist in verifying your pharmacy benefits.
