Cystic fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that causes mucus in the body to become thick, dry, and sticky. This sticky mucus builds up and causes problems in many of the body's organs, especially the lungs and the pancreas. People who have CF can have serious breathing problems and lung disease.
When Cystic fibrosis affects the pancreas, as it often does, the body does not absorb enough nutrients needed to grow and to thrive. Other complications can occur with digestion and nutrition, leading to growth and development issues.
People with cystic fibrosis undergo to loosen and get rid of the mucus from the lungs. Clearing mucus helps to reduce the severity of lung infections and improve lung function. Inhaled drugs are commonly used in cystic fibrosis care because they reach the airways quickly and easily. Antibiotics are also an important part of regular care to fight infection-causing bacteria.
